SPORTS INTEREST:
When the Phillies began Spring Training here in Clearwater
in March, it marked the 53rd year that the team has been associated with
the city. Since their inception, the Phillies have made four World Series
appearances. Today, more than 160 players call Clearwater their home
during training, and many come back to Clearwater to make their permanent
homes here after they retire. In the 53 years the city's population has
increased five-fold, and the Tampa Bay area has seen the addition of
its own major league expansion team, the Devil Rays.
